Topical Use....
Even though my favorite way to use essential oils is probably aromatically, my most-used way is topical. Topical use of essential oils is very easy and convenient. Some oils are able to be used "neat", meaning without dilution...or in other words, a drop straight out of the bottle. In fact, most of doTERRA's oils can be said to be used that way. However, some oils must be diluted. Oregano, Cassia, Cinnamon and Clove oil to name a few. These are 'hot' oils and can burn you if you do not dilute them.
**Please note: I personally recommend to ALWAYS dilute your oils. There is no reason NOT to dilute and from the different viewpoints that I have heard, I believe that sensitivities can result in some people. No dilution and using 'neat' seems to increase this. Even the supporters of the idea of possible sensitivities say that diluting your oils will prevent or significantly decrease this risk.***
You dilute essential oils by using a "carrier oil". There are several options of carrier oils that people use. The most popular carrier oils are:
*Fractionated Coconut Oil (doTERRA carries this oil).
*Grape seed Oil (A fantastic choice for Certified Organic Grape seed oil can be found HERE).
*Almond Oil
*Jojoba Oil
*Olive Oil (from what I hear, olive oil can leave an oily residue on clothes, but it is still a popular choice).
You cannot use water to dilute essential oils. Even though essential oils do not necessarily feel oily, oil and water do not mix.
