Ahhhh....I LOVE spearmint! How about you? Peppermint is good, too, but if I have a choice in things like...gum, I always choose spearmint. I just bought some sugar-free mints to try and yes, you guessed it...Spearmint flavor. I just love it.
So, what about essential oil? I couldn't wait to try it out. I had no idea what spearmint essential oil was good for, but I wanted to smell it diffused. Yep. I love it! So cool and refreshing, yet a soft, mild mint. I also mixed it with some Lemongrass essential oil as well. I chose the Lemongrass simply to keep mosquitoes away. The mix was so pleasantly crisp, clean with subtle mint. Nice!

What else is mint good for? You may be surprised at how versatile it can be:
- Cooking, of course! Spearmint is used in salads, drinks, and desserts; but how about adding it to salad dressings and to marinate meats?
- Chillax. Spearmint is a natural relaxer. Perhaps that is why I choose to use words like soft, subtle, refreshing and relaxing to describe it. Spearmint leaves have natural sedative qualities. Next time you need to be relaxed and refreshed after a long day, try diffusing spearmint. The next time you just need a moment to "chillax" from a long (long!) day, turn to the spearmint for relief. Maybe a cup of hot spearmint tea!
- A great 'builder-upper'. Spearmint is known to build courage, confidence, and lift moods. Who doesn't need that kind of support now and then, eh? Try diffusing it with some Tangerine essential oil as well.
- Okay, now here is one I haven't tried myself, but apparently Spearmint is good for the skin. And being milder than Peppermint, parents may feel better about applying spearmint to a child's skin, yes? It contains properties that can be used to support clean and healthy skin. Acne, bug-bites? Try Spearmint.
- From what I have found, research supports spearmint as an effective wasp-repellent. I don't know about you, but I have been stung a time or two by those "waspy-buggers" and a repellent isn't a half-bad idea! Dilute it to make a bug-spray, diffuse it on your outdoor patio, I like my idea about adding some Lemongrass to it to make it even more efficient for things like mosquitoes. Research link here.
- There are several things to list, I will add one more here and then maybe save the rest for a future post! How about digestive benefits? Soothe abdominal discomfort and help support your digestive system using spearmint. Try a drop with a slice of lemon in your ice tea. Use it topically with your favorite carrier oil.
